Butterflies are collected on the day of the event or sent via overnight delivery the day before. If delivered overnight, store the butterflies in a cool, dark place away from direct light until you are ready to transport them to the event. This will keep them calm. Do not leave them in a parked car especially if the weather is warm.
To release butterflies individually: Pass out the envelopes at the appropriate time. The butterflies are release by simply opening the envelope wide enough for the butterfly to flap a wing and the butterfly will take flight. They will delight you and your guests before going off to start a new life cycle. Please release outdoors during daylight hours, out of strong winds with the temperature not lower than 17 degrees. Never release butterflies in heavy rain.
To release butterflies as a group: If they have been delivered overnight, transfer them into a prepared release box/cage. You need not be concerned about injury to the wings from gentle touching. The scales (colouring) do not affect its ability to fly. Keep the box/cage out of direct sunlight. If collected the morning of the event they will be already in the prepared release box/cage.
The release: An appointed "butterfly attendant" can pass out the envelopes or bring the release box/cage to the appropriate spot, they can read out the American Indian Legend or you may wish to write your own dedication to the bride and groom.
Photo tips: Chilly butterflies will not fly away immediately and can be posed gently for a perfect picture. Just place the butterflies for 5 minutes in their cooler, focus and snap fast. Once they are warm they are off.
